hola,
so i finally got my laptop back hence the lack of posts this past week. it was kind of nice not having it because it forced me to do other things like use my time wisely.
...
for example: i have been watching vh1 and mtv playing michael jacksons videos for countless of hours, buying his cds, and going through every single la times article i can find on michael. but who hasn't done that? productive, no? haha
in almost every single interview or tribute to michael jackson, producer quincy jones is mentioned somewhere in the story. i never really realized how much of an impact he was to michael's career. i remember being part of my church choir/praise team and we were invited to take part in the tribute to quincy jones in 2004. it was called "A Tribute to Quincy Jones on BET: An Evening of Stars." i was 14 and the main thing i was stoked about was to go into the kodak theatre. At the time, i didn't know how influential of a man he was. i remember looking into the crowd and seeing a lot familiar faces. everyone from stevie wonder to oprah was front row and center.
we sang "just once" with james ingram and the rest of the spirit of unity choir. (haha quincy even started to cry) i really didn't fathom how incredibly lucky i was to take part in a tribute to a man who helped build michael's solo career. i mean come on now... he was the producer to off the wall, thriller, and bad. some of the best albums ever made.
now that i look back at it, it sure goes under the file of yuri's best memories.
haha i found it on youtube!
i'll post up pictures of the fire crackers tomorrow.
adios,
yuri
p.s. happy birthday america
wow what a special moment in your life!! i am such a choir nerd haha and totally empathize :)
ReplyDeletehope you had a happy fourth!
I posted an interview a while back on Michael. When the interviewer asked Michael who his best friend was Michael said, Quincy. I think they had a great relationship. It's been a tough week for Quincy though, he was owner of VIBE magazine, which went under this week, along with the death of Michael. Great post. Thanks for the insight.
